Theater stars know what’s hot in entertainment, fashion and pop culture, so Broadway.com decided it was high time to tap in to the after-hours obsessions of our favorite stage actors. Broadway vet Gerard Canonico is currently appearing off-Broadway as Matt, a lovesick Catholic school student, in the revamped musical Bare. When he's not baring his soul onstage, Canonico can be found rocking out to Billy Joel, watching South Park and The Simpsons, and eating lots of cheese. Check out his obsessions below!
TV SHOW: The Simpsons
“Quite simply, it is the longest running sitcom for a reason. It stays current, there are TONS of characters, and you get to know EVERY SINGLE ONE of them. Brilliant.”
MOVIE: South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut
“I don't think I was actually allowed to see it when it first came out, which made me even more obsessed with it. Along with it being hilarious, there's some incredible music in that movie. I could watch it any time and laugh as hard as I did when I first saw it.”
STAGE SHOW (OTHER THAN MY OWN): Rent
“I was unhealthily obsessed with Rent as a teenager and it still holds a special place in my heart. There, I said it.”
SINGER: Billy Joel
“I could listen to him all day every day."
BOOK: To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee
“This book was the ONLY summer reading book I truly enjoyed."
ATHLETE: Victor Cruz
“NEW YORK GIANTS!!!"
CELEBRITY: Jim Carrey
“I used to try and act like him growing up and he's still one of the most brilliant comedic and serious actors around."
VACATION SPOT: Disney World
"Enough said."
APP: Ultimate-Guitar Tabs
“You can look up how to play any song on guitar at any time. It's brilliant. You can also tune your guitar with this app!"
FASHION DESIGNER: Tristan Raines
BEAUTY PRODUCT: Kat Von D's tattoo coverup
“It's seriously the bee's knees."
RANDOM OBSESSION: Cheese
“I enjoy it always."
